DD COUNCIL OVERVIEW

The Federal Administration on Developmental Disabilities administers the CNMI Council on Developmental Disabilities. It was created under a federal mandate and now an amendment to the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000. The Governor appoints 24 qualified CNMI residents to serve on the Council. Most are people with developmental disabilities and their family members. Others are representatives of agencies and groups that provide services to people with developmental disabilities. We are men and women who are committed to improving the lives of hundreds of CNMI residents with disability. We are passionate and are focused on issues related to self-determination, education, employment, transportation, housing, recreation, healthcare and overall quality of life of people with developmental disabilities and their families.

Council Mission

Engage in advocacy, capacity building, and systemic change activities that – contribute to a coordinated, consumer-and family-centered, consumer- and family-directed, comprehensive system that includes needed community services, individualized supports, and other forms of assistance that promote self-determination for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
